NAFEST 2018 opens tomorrow in River state

With the dust now settled on national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hasted by the Rivers State governor, Nyesome Wike, the state is once again brimming with colours and high expectation as the state government set to host a big cultural feast as the National Festival for Arts and Culture (NAFEST 2018) opens tomorrow. According to the Director General of NCAC, Otunba Segun Runsewe, all is set for the one weeklong cultural festival that will see the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) converge on the Garden City for this year’s edition of the yearly arts and cultural feast.

The newly built cultural centre in Obi Wali, will host all the events of the festival, which according to Runsewe, will be one of the grandest and most entertaining as well as enriching NAFEST that NCAC will be hosting in recent years as the Rivers State governor, Wike, has put the state machinery in work to ensure that the festival succeeds. A massive attendance from both within and outside the shores of the country is expected at the event, which opening ceremony is billed for tomorrow and will span October 27, with Runsewe disclosing that: “A lot of visitors both from within and outside Nigeria are on their way to Rivers State and I can confirm to you that reports reaching us from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) indicate that hotels are in for good business.” Adding that: “This is a major boost and it is good for the economy of Rivers State and by extension, Nigeria because the massive participation and influx of people from all works of life will ensure very high commercial activities in the State.”

Runsewe also expressed his delight over the level of involvement by Rivers’ youths who are set to take full advantage of the festival in not only showcasing state’s culture but by also benefiting from the numerous youth empowerment components of NAFEST initiated by NCAC. He enjoined all Stakeholders and indeed Nigerians to support NAFEST 2018 as a unifying force for cultural integration and harmony just as he affirms NCAC’s total commitment in projecting Nigeria’s rich culture throughout the fiesta.
